Growth of Dendritic Ice Crystals from Sucrose Solutions and the Diffusion Field of Water Molecules around the Crystals

Abstract. Studies on the tip shape and velocity of primary and side branches of dendritic ice crystals growing from sucrose solutions were carried out. The diffusion field of water molecules around a dendritic ice crystal was visualized using a schlieren microscope.
